Let's start with some Resources for your Blogging adventures:
1) Blogs. What's a blog? This site is a blog. It is free and it is owned by Google.
Q) Do I recommend it for your own, personal and permanent blog?
A) No.
Q) Why not?
A) It is a great place to learn the "blogging language". I recommend it as your first practise blog but not for your permanent blog.
Q) Why not?
A) Great question! Your www.blogger.com or www.blogspot.com (both the same) blog is owned by Google. At any time Google could delete your blog - it has happened to people we know and if you don't have your blog backed up at all times, you have lost your content and all your hard work! It is also cumbersome to navigate around in and it has limitations for growth.
Q) What other choices do I have?
A) We highly recommend getting your own blog with your own domain name and your own hosting (we'll cover how to do these easily). Options: You can go to: www.Wordpress.org and start your blog there OR you can purchase a blog template that you will own OR you can have a designer create a blog for you.
Q) How much will this all cost?
A) It is very reasonable to create your own presence on the Internet. A domain name (www.marybrown.com) will cost under $10/year and good hosting is under $8/month. Blog templates can run you from free to $80 (one time fee) and a custom made, designer blog will cost anywhere from $100 to $350 (one-time fee).
2) Videos: create a snappy, short video using Jing @
http://www.jingproject.com - Jing is the free, little sister version to Big Brother, Camtasia Studio (where you can create longer videos). Jing Pro is also available for only $14.95/year
Of course www.YouTube.com is always available but a YouTube video can take a long time to load on your Blog, which could cause your visitors to leave.
